Our work sits at the intersection of regenerative agriculture, youth support and environmental stewardship. Through market gardens, school-based programs, volunteer opportunities, and community food initiatives, we help create healthier, more resilient communities while caring for people and the environment.
Farm It Forward was honoured to receive the Blue Mountains City Council Community Initiative of the Year Award in recognition of our contribution to community wellbeing and environmental regeneration.
We are seeking a passionate, reliable and self-motivated Regenerative Market Gardener & Community Grower to join our team and help steward our market gardens in Lawson and Katoomba.
Position Details

8 hours per week

Three-month probation period

Casual position with potential to transition into a permanent part-time position for the right candidate

Initial work days and hours will be determined collaboratively based on your availability

Once established, these hours will become your regular weekly schedule and must be adhered to consistently
The Role
This role combines hands-on regenerative food production with community engagement and volunteer support.
You will be responsible for maintaining productive growing spaces, harvesting food, supporting volunteers, building positive relationships with landholders, and helping tell the story of Farm It Forward through social media and community outreach.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, and is excited about contributing to a purpose-driven organisation creating positive social and environmental impact.
Key Responsibilities
Food Production and Garden Maintenance

Maintain assigned vegetable production plots to a high standard

Undertake crop planning, planting, sowing, transplanting and succession planting

Weed, mulch, compost and maintain soil health
-
Trellis, prune and support crops as required
-
Monitor crop health and identify potential issues
-
Harvest produce according to Farm It Forward standards
-
Assist with seasonal planning and implementation
-
Support ongoing improvements to growing systems and infrastructure
Community and Volunteer Engagement

Assist with volunteer sessions and community growing activities
-
Build positive and respectful relationships with landholders and site hosts
-
Contribute to a welcoming, inclusive and collaborative culture
Communication and Administration

Attend weekly operational meetings
-
Maintain clear communication with the Farm It Forward team and coordinator
-
Complete assigned tasks and provide updates on progress
-
Create occasional social media content including photographs, short videos and updates from growing sites
-
Assist with documenting harvests, activities and project outcomes where required
Essential Requirements

Current driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle
-
Valid Working With Childrens Check

Own smartphone
-
Previous market gardening experience or equivalent experience growing food at a productive scale

Genuine passion for regenerative agriculture, environmental stewardship and community wellbeing

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Strong organisational skills and attention to detail

Reliable, punctual and accountable

Ability to work independently and manage time effectively

Ability to work alone as well as collaboratively as part of a team

Openness to learning, receiving feedback and developing new skills

Reasonable level of physical fitness and ability to undertake outdoor manual work in varying weather conditions
Desirable Skills and Experience
The following would be highly regarded but are not essential:

Experience using Trello, Wix, Facebook, Instagram or similar online platforms

Experience constructing or maintaining garden infrastructure such as fencing, irrigation systems, trellises or small structures

Knowledge of regenerative agriculture, permaculture or agroecological growing methods

Experience working with volunteers

Experience in youth work, community development, education, social services or wellbeing programs

Current First Aid Certificate
